master craftsmanship

master prints

As the name suggests, these are black and white prints which have a special character. We have invented a darkroom process which enables us to provide you with the absolute premium black and white print to fully realize your photographic vision. We are the only custom lab in the country with the knowledge of this process. From any type of black and white negative or transparency, we generate highlight, mid tone and shadow film separations. A positive film and highly improved negative are then produced from these separations. If necessary, retouching can be performed on either the positive or new negative. This provides you with more refinement opportunities, depending on the desired corrections. Throughout the process, several photographic masks are implemented to create maximum image detail, a wider gray scale range, sparkling highlights, and rich blacks, while maintaining shadow detail. The films are then combined through perfect registration and printed on ilford galerieª fiberbase papers. The quality of the final print is far superior to that of one made directly from the original negative. The entire process is performed by hand to your exact specifications. We work together with you to create a print that reflects the pride both you and the print lab have in photography and the images we create.

platinum printing

Platinum printing is one of the oldest techniques used in photography. It offers one of the widest gray scale ranges and a hand crafted feel. The process begins by creating a new negative to the desired size of the print. All of the techniques described in the master print section are employed to generate the best possible results. Emulsion is mixed entirely by hand and adjusted by chemical proportion to control contrast based on the given negative. The liquid emulsion is applied onto a chemical free french watercolor paper such as COT320. This final print is extremely stable and the image will last as long as the paper the print is made on.

Other non-silver processes are available, including palladium, dye-transfer, salted paper, and gum. please call for more information.
